03/02/2013 at 05:00 PM EST

Jason Segel and Michelle Williams

AKM-GSI

From breakups to bad fashion, this week's news had you laughing, smiling and feeling blue. The endearing display of fatherhood from new dad Nick Lachey, who put mini-me son Camden on his new album cover, made you smile, while Michelle Williams and Jason Segel's split made you sad.

Check out the articles with the top reactions on the site this week, and keep clicking on the emoticons at the bottom of every story to tell us what you think!

LoveReaders showed big love for Lachey's precious baby photo, which adorns the singer's latest record cover, for A Father's Lullaby. Lachey, 39, is loving being a first-time dad, and his son with wife Vanessa Lachey, is an uncanny mini-me version of the pop singer, with thick brown hair and deep blue eyes.

WowBritney Spears has debuted many looks in her career, but her latest chestnut haircolor – a welcome change from her usual blonde – has our readers offering their approval. The singer's new look, which she showed off at Elton John's Oscar night party, comes as a fresh start after her January break-up with fiancé Jason Trawick.

Angry If outspoken Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville wasn't provocative enough already, her revealing Oscar dress drew angry responses from readers who said its cleavage-spilling bodice wasn't property fitted to house to her ample assets.

SadThe breakup of actors Michelle Williams, 32, and Jason Segel, 33, saddened our readers, many of whom no doubt wanted a fairy tale ending for the actress and her daughter, Matilda, 7. A source told PEOPLE that the couple's long-distance relationship – she lives in New York, he in Los Angeles – was to blame.

LOLJosh Duhamel, expecting a baby with wife Fergie, describes himself as a big kid, and his drag-inspired parody of Taylor Swift, in an oversized dress and blonde wig, no less, made our readers laugh out loud. The outfit was a part of his promotion for the 2013 Kids' Choice Awards, set for March 23 on Nickelodeon, where Duhamel, 40, will serve as host.

Check back next week for another must-read roundup, and see what readers are reacting to every day here.

Siobhan Finneran to Leave Downton Abbey

03/01/2013 at 06:30 PM EST

After three scheming seasons, lady's maid Sarah O'Brien is hanging up her apron and apparently taking her nastiness to warmer climes.

Actress Siobhan Finneran confirms she won't be returning for a fourth season on Downton Abbey after appearing on the hit PBS show since the beginning.

"I'm not doing any more," she says, according to the Huffington Post UK. "O'Brien is a thoroughly despicable human being – that was great to play."

It's not known how she'll be dispatched from the show, which has already killed off two major characters. But O'Brien was last seen angling to quit Downton to work for another family transplanting from Scotland to India.

O'Brien leaves a trail of destruction, causing her employer, Lady Grantham, to miscarry, then double-crossing her onetime partner in evil, footman Thomas Barrow.

British audiences will still be able to see Finneran on the UK series The Syndicate, in which she plays a nurse who won the lottery.

Why cradle an Oscar when you can cuddle a baby?

While most of Hollywood's A-list stars celebrated at the Academy Awards on Sunday, newlyweds Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively ditched the glamorous affair and spent time cheering up sick patients at a local hospital in Canada.

Reynolds, 36, and Lively, 25, made a visit to the Health Sciences North's pediatric unit in Sudbury, Ontario. Lively is visiting Reynolds while he is in town filming the drama Queen of The Night.

"I can tell you the visit was really appreciated by the kids, their parents and the staff on the unit," hospital spokesperson Dan Lessard tells Sudbury Northern Life. "Mr. Reynolds and Ms. Lively were wonderful with the children."

Sudbury resident Sarah Lavallee, who is watching over her 3-month-old son at the hospital, was grateful for the stars' visit.

"Ryan and Blake were both very kind to us. They introduced themselves right away and asked how my son was doing," Lavallee tells the paper. "I really appreciated both Ryan and Blake giving me something to smile about at such a difficult time."

The couple, who tied the knot last September, made their rounds chatting with multiple families and even took turns holding an infant.

Jennifer Lawrence's (Coolest) Fan, Jack Nicholson, Crashes Her Interview

02/25/2013 at 07:00 PM EST

Jennifer Lawrence has a surprise superstar fan!

The shocked look on the Hollywood darling's face when she won the Best Actress statuette during Sunday's 85th Annual Academy Awards may have been topped with the look she gave when approached by Jack Nicholson, shortly after the show.

"Oh, you've got a fan here," Good Morning America host, George Stephanopoulos, pointed out as Nicholson, 75, crept behind the newly minted Oscar winner, 22.

"Such a beautiful job," the actor told a gasping Lawrence. "I know I'm crashing your interview."

After Nicholson walks away, Lawrence throws her head in her hands, shouting, "Oh, my god!" in between giggles.

As her new pal walks away for good, Lawrence gets a greeting across the room from fellow A-Lister, Jennifer Garner.

"This is my life now," joked Lawrence with a laugh. "Hey Jack, hey Jennifer. How are you?"

Who is your bump wearing?

Parents-to-be Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum brought a very special guest to Sunday night's 85th Annual Academy Awards – wearing a black lace, backless dress, Dewan-Tatum, 32, showed off her new curves, while husband Tatum revealed where their baby will be born.

"I'm walking the carpet, trying to keep it together tonight but we're good!" a radiant Dewan-Tatum told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet Sunday night.

When asked by Seacrest if the couple had any plans to slow down for some "family time," Tatum, 32, replied: "We're gonna actually have the baby in London while I'm shooting so there will be no downtime whatsoever after that."

Tatum – who was named PEOPLE's 2012 Sexiest Man Alive – recently told PEOPLE that he's doing his homework before the baby arrives.

"I have never changed a diaper before, so I may need some help learning," the actor said at the time. "I don't have friends who have kids, so it's going to be an interesting experience to learn how to change a diaper."

The couple's first child is due this summer.

From Homeless in the Congo to the Oscars Red Carpet: The Story You Must Read Before Tomorrow

Style News Now

02/23/2013 at 05:40 PM ET

Oscars 2013 Rachel MwanzaCourtesy Rachel Mwanza

One of the best stories from this year’s Oscars ceremony isn’t taking place on screen, but rather on the red carpet.

Rachel Mwanza, the 16-year-old star of the Best Foreign Language Film nominee War Witch, will be joining her fellow nominees in L.A. after obtaining a visa from the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo just days before the Oscars.

The young actress was “discovered” by the War Witch team from a documentary called Kinshasa Kids, which portrayed the life of Mwanza and other children living on the streets in the Congo.

Since being cast in the film, in which she plays a child kidnapped and enslaved to a life of guerilla warfare, her life has changed dramatically — from having a home and education paid for to winning a best actress award at the Berlin Film Festival.

And since her flight arrived late Friday night, she needed a red carpet-worthy dress quickly, which is where Rent the Runway stepped in.

The designer rental service rushed Mwanza several dresses to wear to the Independent Spirit Awards Saturday, from which she chose Kate Spade New York’s “Tiebreaker” style, adding Chamak by Priya Kakkar bangles and a Judith Leiber clutch.

“I’m so excited to be in Los Angeles. I’ve never seen the ocean before!” Mwanza tells PEOPLE through a translator. “I’m tired from my long trip, but way too excited to rest!”

She shared exclusive shots with PEOPLE (above) of her trying-on process, including shots of her caretaker “Mama” helping her zip into her final dress, and the many jewels she was sent to choose from.

And it didn’t take much to get Mwanza ready for her high-profile debut: “I’m going to work it on the red carpet,” she says. “I’ve been practicing my poses!”

The one disappointment from her trip so far? No sightings of a certain superstar. “Beyoncé is my favorite in the whole world. Why is she not here?!” Mwanza jokes.

Below, see a shot of Mwanza and her War Witch producers Marie-Claude Poulin and Pierre Even at the Independent Spirit Awards, and be sure to watch her film, which will be On Demand beginning Tuesday and in select theaters March 1.

And keep an eye out for her at the Oscars Sunday night, where she’ll be wearing a top-secret dress made for her by an African designer. Can’t wait to see her poses!

The Hunger Games: Katniss & Peeta's Victory Tour Look Revealed

02/22/2013 at 06:00 PM EST

They survived the Hunger Games – but will they survive the Victory Tour?

Sporting bridal-like attire, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) pose for a promotional poster for the Victory Tour – which – in the Hunger Games universe – is when the victor of the annual Hunger Games tournament visits each of the fictional Panem's districts.

As true Hunger Games fans know, there is usually only one victor – but Katniss and Peeta rebelled against the Capitol in the first movie, originally opting for joint suicide instead of murder.

The softer look is a deliberate statement, meant to continue the charade that Katniss and Peeta were blinded by love when they rebelled against the rules in the arena.

The second film, Catching Fire, hits theaters Nov. 22.

Country singer and former Survivor contestant Whitney Duncan is engaged – and this time it's not a secret.

"I'm going to marry this man," Duncan Tweeted on Feb. 14 shortly after announcing her engagement to her fellow Survivor tribemate Keith Tollefson.

Duncan, 28, was secretly married when she met and fell for Tollefson, 27, on Survivor: South Pacific in the summer of 2011 but now the tribemates are headed down the aisle.

"He did good," Duncan wrote on Facebook along with a photo of her sparkling engagement ring of interlocking circles in a complex pattern.

The "Skinny Dippin' " singer portrayed herself as single on the 23rd season of the CBS reality show, but she had actually been married to Donny Fallgatter, lead singer for the band KingBilly, since August 2010.

Fallgatter and Duncan had kept their marriage a secret from even friends and family until Duncan confessed her feelings for Tollefson to Fallgatter during a phone call made just before she returned from filming Survivor, a source close to the couple told PEOPLE in 2011.

The country couple's divorce proceedings were complete in November 2011 and now Duncan and Tollefson – a self-described environmentalist – are happily celebrating their impending nuptials.

"Thanks to everyone for the best wishes on mine and @whitneyduncan's engagement," Tollefson tweeted. "I know real original proposing on Valentines day ha."

Oscar Preview: Les Mis, Chicago Casts to Sing & Dance

02/20/2013 at 07:00 PM EST

Universal (2); Miramax

Strike up the band, for Sunday night's Oscars promise to be very musical.

In the most detailed preview yet of what is to be expected – and what isn't – the 85th annual Academy Awards producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron tell Deadline.com that their special tribute to the resurgence of movie musicals in the past decade will star Les Misérables nominees Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway with costars Russell Crowe, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tevit, Samantha Barks, and Helena Bonham Carter; Dreamgirls Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson; and Chicago winner Catherine Zeta-Jones.

"What we don't want to do is play it safe," says Zadan about the show in general, admitting – repeatedly – that the job of producing it is "enormous."

So is the Oscar night orchestra: 60 pieces. Accompanying all those instruments will be:

• The previously announced Justin Timberlake, as well as Barbra Streisand, who's only sung on the show once before in her 5½-decade career (and that was 36 years ago)

• Golden Globe song winner Adele ("Skyfall" is up for Best Song) and "Goldfinger" diva Shirley Bassey, an Oscar newbie, who'll appear as part of the James Bond 50th anniversary tribute

• And the evening's host, Seth MacFarlane, who's been known to break into song on more than one occasion – such as when he hosted SNL.

Other reveals:

• "It's not going to be three hours but we will try to get it close to that," says Zadan. (There are 24 categories to recognize.)

• Six college filmmaking students will serve as Oscar presenters after winning a contest to be on the show.

• The 007 tribute will not feature a reunion of Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig.

• MacFarlane's opening monologue is "clever and sort of unique … like a throwback to the days of Bob Hope and Johnny Carson," says Zadan.

• Streisand's number is being kept a secret, "but we love the speculation," says Meron.

The 85th annual Academy Awards will air live on Sunday, Feb. 24, on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

What's Next for Mindy McCready's Two Young Boys?

02/19/2013 at 07:00 PM EST

Mindy McCready's apparent suicide on Sunday has left her two young sons in custodial limbo.

The boys – Zander, 6, and Zayne, 10 months – had been in state custody since Feb. 7, when McCready called police to ask for help in making her father and stepmother leave her home. When police arrived, McCready appeared to be intoxicated, according to a Department of Human Services report.

In a subsequent petition, the singer's father, Tim McCready, asked the court to order her to undergo mental health and substance abuse evaluation and treatment, alleging that his daughter, who had recently lost her boyfriend, "hasn't had a bath in a week ... screams about everything ... [is] very verbally abusive to Zander."

After a judge granted the petition, the children were quickly removed and placed into foster care. Although McCready was released from treatment, the boys remained in state custody.

At the time, Zander's father, Billy McKnight, requested custody of his son. "My son needs me." he told PEOPLE on Feb. 8. "I'm married, working and successful. I'm on the right track and proud of it. I've been sober for years. I just want my son."

But McCready's mother and stepfather, Gayle and Michael Inge, also want custody of the children – and authorities seem to agree.

In a proposed order sent to Circuit Judge Lee Harrod, the Department of Human Services proposed that the Inges might be a better fit for the children, claiming that they have "a substantial relationship." The Inges had custody of Zander for much the past few years, during McCready’s rehab and jail stints.

With McCready's death, the judge will have to determine what is in the children's best interest. A custody hearing has been scheduled for April 5.

Mindy McCready: Under Police Scrutiny at Time of Suicide?

Mindy McCready and David Wilson

When Mindy McCready talked to police in recent weeks, her account of how her boyfriend came to be found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head concerned police, a law enforcement source tells PEOPLE.

"At first, she said she hadn't heard the gunshot because the TV was too loud. Then she said she had heard the gunshot," the source says. "So obviously there were a lot of questions, and the Sheriff was asking for clarification."

But before investigators could re-interview her, the long-troubled country singer also would die under eerily similar circumstances, her body discovered at the same Heber Springs, Ark., house just feet away from where David Wilson died.

McCready's death was blamed on what "appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound," the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

This differed from how the sheriff characterized Wilson's case. His cause and manner of death still have not been established by the coroner. It was McCready's publicist, and not a law enforcement official, who announced that Wilson had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

After Wilson's death, McCready, 37, spoke to investigators three times, but they didn't feel as if they were through with her.

"At no point did [police] tell her she was a suspect, and she wasn't officially one," says the source. "But she knew that some of her answers didn't stand up to questioning. She was very cooperative, but she just wasn't making a lot of sense."

See The Dress Only Jennifer Lopez Could Wear

Style News Now

02/15/2013 at 06:00 PM ET

Judging by the red carpet looks seen at the Grammys and the creations sent down the runways at New York Fashion Week, we have a sneaking suspicion we’ll be spotting a lot more navy and a lot more menswear-inspired getups in the coming weeks. But there’s one style you can pretty much write off (and don’t expect to see much of it at the Oscars): Studio 54-esque dresses.

Up: Navy Instead of Black. The LBD and LWD better watch out: There’s another shade gunning for the spotlight. This week everyone from Emmy Rossum and Anne Hathaway to Oprah Winfrey and Miranda Lambert slipped into midnight blue. And we totally understand the appeal of the color. It’s a bit more interesting and unexpected than black, but equally flattering on all shapes and sizes.

Up: Menswear-Inspired Looks. Beyoncé wore a pantsuit to the Grammys and a number of other stars (including Jessica Alba, Julianne Hough and Solange Knowles) quickly followed, well, suit. We doubt that tons of actresses will forgo gowns for dude duds at the Oscars, but our money is on at least one woman in menswear on that red carpet.

Down: Disco Ball Dresses. They had their moment, but that moment seems to have passed. So, take a long look at Jennifer Lopez in her printed sequin Preen dress (sparkly enough to be hung from the ceiling over any dance floor) because as amazing as it is, the creation is probably the last you’ll see of its kind for some time.

Alec Baldwin Hilaria Baldwin Pregnant Expecting Baby

Dad-to-be Alec Baldwin certainly sympathizes with his expectant wife Hilaria — he’s experiencing all the aches and pregnancy pains too!

“My boobs hurt. My boobs are killing me, so sore,” the actor, 54, jokes with Extra. “My jeans don’t fit. My pants, I can’t buckle them.”

But, according to Alec, it’s Hilaria — due with the couple’s first child together late this summer — who has the crazy cravings.

“She was eating troughs of pineapple. I mean like tanker containers of pineapple,” he shares.

Quips Hilaria, “I didn’t eat pineapple before. It was bizarre. I really wanted pineapple.”

With the recent series finale of his award-winning show 30 Rock, Alec is excited to dive into daddy duty full time. “My dream is to be home with the baby, standing in the doorway, saying goodbye to Mommy,” he explains. “‘Mommy is going to work now. Bye Mommy … don’t work too hard!’”

While the newlyweds are still unsure of whether they’ll be welcoming a son or daughter, either way it looks like Alec, already dad to daughter Ireland, will eventually be juggling more than one baby.

“I want to have at least one of each, so whatever this is going to be, I want to have the next one [be the opposite sex],” says Hilaria.

Bryan Adams is in heaven — again!

“Bryan Adams and Alicia Grimaldi welcomed their second baby girl in London earlier this week,” Adam’s rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.

The rocker and Grimaldi, who cofounded his charitable foundation, named their new bundle of joy Lula Rosylea. She joins big sister Bunny, 22 months.

“Lula Rosylea decided to arrive at tea time,” Adams tells PEOPLE. “Rosylea is cockney rhyming slang in London for ‘cup of tea’ and the name Lula comes from Gene Vincent‘s song ‘Be-Bop-A-Lula.’”

Jada Pinkett Smith Reveals Her 'Craziest' Diet Ever

Jada Pinkett Smith

Ouzounova/Splash News Online

Jada Pinkett Smith knows a thing or two about diet and exercise.

The 41-year-old mom to Jaden, 14, and Willow, 12, who recently showed off an extremely toned beach body, says the craziest diet she's ever done actually involved a whole lot of eating.

"My craziest diet was for The Matrix," Smith told PEOPLE at the Vera Wang Fall 2013 Collection fashion show at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week on Tuesday. Seated front row next to model Chrissy Teigen, Pinkett Smith enjoyed some girl time away from husband Will Smith, who recently vacationed with pals – and parents-to-be – Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in Brazil.

To look the part of her butt-kicking character Niobe, the actress was "lifting 170 lbs. chest weight, and a lot of weight on my legs," she said.

While Matthew McConaughey's recent role required the actor to lose 30 lbs., Pinkett Smith says her role called for the opposite.

"I actually had to eat tons and tons and tons of food," Pinkett Smith said. "It was all about building muscle."

These days, the vegetarian eats a lot less, though she admits she still craves "McDonald's French fries."

But don't let her petite frame fool you.

"I love dressing like a tall woman," she said, wearing an on-trend peach dress and sky-high Christian Louboutin heels, "I like a lot of drama in my clothes."

Lady Gaga: I Can't Walk Due to Injury

02/12/2013 at 06:45 PM EST

Lady Gaga is feeling like a little monster for postponing concerts because of an injury.

"I barely know what to say," she writes on her Facebook page, Tuesday. "I've been hiding a show injury and chronic pain for some time now, [and] over the past month it has worsened. I've been praying it would heal. I hid it from my staff. I didn't want to disappoint my amazing fans. However, after last night's performance I could not walk and still can't."

The pop star, 26 – whose Twitter page explains that she has a case of synovitis, which is severe inflammation of the joints – was forced to postpone two concerts in Chicago, one in Detroit and one in Hamilton, Ontario.

"I hope you can forgive me, as it is nearly impossible for me to forgive myself," the rest of her Facebook post says. "I'm devastated & sad. It will hopefully heal as soon as possible. I hate this. I hate this so much. I love you and I'm sorry."

Taylor Swift Skips Grammys After-Parties - to Hang with Her Cat

Taylor Swift had plenty to celebrate Sunday after she picked up a Grammy for "Safe & Sound," her collaboration with The Civil Wars.

So did she keep the party going after a night of singing and dancing (and dancing some more)?

"Video shoot early tomorrow, so my Grammy after-party situation looks like.........," the show's opening act, 23, Tweeted post-ceremony, alongside a picture of the cutie she commemorated her win with: her cat Meredith, of course.

Although the recently single singer opted to wear a silver-and-ivory pleated J. Mendel gown instead of her kitty T-shirt, we'll assume Meredith, an avid and proven fan of Swift's music, was proud of her owner.

"She is awesome," she gushed of her post-Grammys date to Katie Couric last year. "She's like the most adorable cat in the world."

Pink Reveals Her Secret to a Happy Marriage: Listening ... in Moderation

02/09/2013 at 05:00 PM EST

Three-time Grammy winner Pink, 33, who is up for best pop vocal album at this month's Grammy Awards – and kicks off her U.S. tour on Feb. 13 – shares the secrets behind her music.

You're nominated for The Truth About Love. So how does the magic happen?
When I start a record, I'm like, 'God, I wonder if I can even sing.' But I write poetry and keep a journal, then the first day I go into the studio, I'm like, 'Here we go, I'm turning the faucet on!' I bottle it up for so long that the inspiration is always there.

How'd you get Eminem to be on 'Here Comes the Weekend'?
He wanted me to be on his last record (2010's Recovery), so I said, 'Yeah, let's swap.' I'm a die-hard Eminem fan. I think he's awesome.

You vent about your husband, Carey Hart, in many songs. How does he feel about that?
He's like, 'Look, I know you, we have a good sense of humor, and I know what I signed up for. I only listen to half of what you say anyway!' When he starts listening to me too much, we have problems!

What does your 20-month-old daughter Willow think of mommy’s music?
The first time she heard my music, she kind of looked at me and got the weirdest expression on her face. I wondered, 'God, what's going on in there for her?'

Many people will be partying hard Grammy night, so what's your best hangover cure?
Drink a beer as soon as possible! I used to be able to drink a bottle of wine and not get a hangover. Now, after two glasses I have a headache.

The 55th annual Grammys will air Sunday, Feb. 10, on CBS at 8 p.m. ET/PT (7 p.m. CT) from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
